Purpose:
In the summer of 2024, I had the opportunity to work as an Engineering Intern for the Space Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission. In my role as an engineering intern, I researched and reviewed applications from large satellite communications companies for Special Temporary Authority (STA) to be able to make additions to or modify earth stations used for uplink and downlink to satellites in their constellation.
Furthermore, I had the opportunity to provide technical feedback to senior lawyers in the Space Bureau regarding a proposed policy for Spectrum Mining, making sure the proposed policy followed technical guidelines and engineering conventions. I also reviewed and annotated Python script shared with my department from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) that intended to calculate the general point-to-point interference between a satellite in a populated orbit altitude and frequency band and a downlink earth station.
